The following is a case study of Tanya Defferary, a Counselling Psychologist from Sunridge, Port Elizabeth.
About Tanya Defferary
I always knew I wanted to work with people and go into something medical, I wasn’t that interested in mathematics, and then I came across psychology, and I was hooked.
After my studies, I opened my private practice. I also offered my therapeutic services to ChildLine Port Elizabeth and worked part-time as a school psychologist.
In 2010 I joined the lecturing staff at the then Midrand Graduate Institute in Port Elizabeth (now Pearson Institute of Higher Education). I was initially hired on a part-time basis and as the Campus grew, it became a full-time demand. I coordinated the Level 4, Bachelor of Psychology Programme for the PE Campus for approximately 7 years.
I was then offered a job to run workshops around South Africa, which I undertook for a year. During all this time I was practicing privately as time would allow and I went into full time private practice in 2017. I am still currently running my private practice, as well as offering corporate workshops to companies on a variety of topics, such as, Personal Mastery, Conflict Resolution and Criticism Management. I also offer training for professional in Contextual Therapy.
What is the current setup of your practice?
I’m currently renting rooms in a peaceful suburb in Port Elizabeth, called Sunridge.
What attracted you to the IsoForge product?
I met Oliver and Ingrid at a Professional Minds conference so I knew about the product. As I got busier and needed a solution for my admin needs, I kept them in mind.
What are your current experiences with IsoForge?
I’m pretty new to IsoForge and am only really using the invoicing and medical aid follow support. I really enjoy it. I’ve gotten into an awesome routine with the team. They know me now and I know them. The team is really on top of these aspects of my business and I don’t need to worry about the admin side of things. I know they are taken care of.
What do you like most about IsoForge?
Not phoning and following up with medical aids is a big plus. I also really like the fact that I don’t have to follow up with a client for payment. When I’ve been helping a client through a tough time, it’s nice not to have to ask them about payment. I find it more professional having someone else assisting with this aspect of the practice.
Where do you feel IsoForge Falls Short for you at the moment?
I’ve just been using the invoicing and medical aid side of it and don’t feel like I can comment on much. I do feel that their marketing has not been what was promised
Why don’t you rather hire a secretary / PA to assist with your admin?
Because I don’t have space. My office setup does not have a reception area currently. However I would consider it if my practice grows and if I create a multi-practice.
Did you look at any other business practice management solutions? Why didn’t you go with them?
Not really. smeMetrics was the most cost effective and made the most sense to me. IsoForge is still a bit expensive for me.
What are your professional passions and future plans for your practice?
I’m considering a few options at the moment for the private practice but I would definitely like to keep my hand in workshops and / or lecturing as I do love talking to people and giving talks and workshops on psychology.
